It’s that time to get it in, cause it’s the 2009 NFL Playoffs!! The seeds are set in both divisions, and it looks like we could see another surprise team heading to the Super Bowl like the prior two years. The Giants made it in 07, and the Cardinals pulled it off last year. Just two weeks ago, it as a lock that the teams to beat were the New Orleans Saints, and the Indianapolis Colts, but with the playoffs beginning this Saturday, nearly every team has a real shot of making it to the show. Starting in the NFC, the Saints losing three games in a row heading into the playoffs concerns me. It shows the pressure of just staying undefeated got too much for this team, and I’m just not sold that the Saints can turn on that switch in the playoffs to get back to playing how they did earlier in the season. The Cowboys and Eagles have a rematch after Dallas trashed the Eagles just this past Sunday. The Cowboys turned it up, and on at the right time down the stretch, and has risen to the top of teams to beat. The Eagles were hot, but have plenty of questions that need to be answered in just a few days to beat the Cowboys in Dallas. I think Green Bay is a sleeper squad, and feel they should be able to take care of the defending NFC champs, the Cardinals, in the other wild card match up. Also a rematch game from last week, the Packers were able to not only win big, but avoid injuries, unlike the Cardinals. It just may be bad timing to have too many nagging injuries, and expect to win. The other teams with a bye, the Minnesota Vikings, look like they have fixed a few concerns over the last few weeks, and have looked very good. I think the Cowboy’s and the Vikings will face each other, with Minnesota eventually winning to go to the Super Bowl.
The AFC picture looks a bit clearer in my opinion. Despite the late season losses by the Colts, I think they have been in the playoffs enough to play at a high level after having a bye. I think New England, and Cincy win in the wild-card round, but I still see the Colts, and Chargers winning out to face on another in the AFC championship game. At this time I give the edge to the Colts just because of a man named, Peyton Manning. Still I have to admit that this game can go either way, especially if the Chargers get up on them early.
We’ll chop up Super Bowl talk in a few weeks as it gets closer to the game.
